I have always wanted a little greenhouse to start plants in for my garden. When cleaning out an old ice house on our property, we found dozens of old windows. I wondered to mysself if one re-uses windows as windows, is this repurposing or is this re-using? Food for thought. This is when I drew up some pretty basic plans and my husband and I got to work.
We got all of the materials needed for the project: blocks, 2×4’s, treated lumber, metal, screws, nails, siding, and strange foam pieces for the roof. My husband is a builder so once he saw the drawing, he knew exactly what we needed. I’m certain he has more technical lingo for the supplies, but you get the picture.
He began my leveling the area to build it and then began on the frame. He roughed in where the windows would be set. After he got off of work each day that the weather permitted he was building my WOMAN CAVE! This is where I plan on spending as much time as possible, thanks to his hard work and dedication to my project!
For a while I think we were the talk of our small community- we received phone calls and emails from people wondering what in the world we were doing now! We had fun with it. I had considered putting a sign at the bottom of our driveway with all of the things people had asked if it was… a duck blind, a dog house, a weather observatory, a sauna, even an outhouse! HAHA!
We slowly got the windows set and I began the task of caulking all of the old windows to make them waterproof once again. I learned from this experience that I am not the best caulker in the world but I sure gave it a go!
One afternoon I came home from work and the roof was being put into place. I put the strange foam pieces in the room and screwed them down to make the roof water tight.
We began wrapping my green house with metal and then we put siding on it.I was proud that I got to use the metal break! ha. I must admit that I was quickly taken off of hammering the nails for the metal we were wrapping the green house with. I was doing it subpar according to the site manager.
We got it completed!
We added plants and hard work into my little slice of heaven!
Looks amazing! Great job!
